At the conclusion of this symposium, the successful learner should be able to:

·         Provide appropriate bedside clinical evaluation of a patient during a seizure.

·         Explain the meaning of “refractory epilepsy” and its implications.

·         Discuss available and forthcoming treatment strategies for refractory epilepsy, including medications, dietary modification, neurostimulation, and radiosurgery.

·         Identify EEG patterns commonly associated with refractory epilepsy and those associated with successful surgical outcomes.
