At the conclusion of this symposium, the
successful learner should be able to:

Provide
appropriate bedside clinical evaluation of a patient during a seizure.
·
Explain the
meaning of “refractory epilepsy” and its implications.
·
Discuss
available and forthcoming treatment strategies for refractory epilepsy,
including medications, dietary modification, neurostimulation, and
radiosurgery.
·
Identify EEG
patterns commonly associated with refractory epilepsy and those associated
with successful surgical outcomes.

Accreditation and Credit Statement:
This activity has been
planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies
of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through
the joint sponsorship of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of
Medicine and Southern Pediatric Neurology Society. VCU is accredited by the
ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Physicians may claim up to TBA hours in Type 1 or Type 2 CME on
the Virginia Board of Medicine Continued Competency and Assessment Form
required for renewal of an active medical license.
VCU designates this
educational activity for a maximum of TBA

PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit
commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
This continuing education
activity meets the criteria of Virginia Commonwealth University and the
